Youth Violence prevention and intervention task Force

Established in 2025 by Mayor Lyman Dawkins, the Youth Violence Prevention and Intervention Task Force was created to take a proactive, collaborative approach to addressing youth violence in our community. The task force is dedicated to identifying root causes and implementing meaningful strategies to prevent future incidents. Our work includes examining key contributing factors of youth violence such as a lack of access to community resources, availability of after-school programming, mentorship opportunities, and unmet mental health needs to develop informed, effective solutions.

Community Event Involvement

Each of these community events are essential to our strength and success. They represent the heart of our commitment to the people we serve. None of this would be possible without the dedication and support of our community. We are proud to continue each of these events and remain committed to building on the relationships and traditions that make our community strong.

Annual School Supply Drive

Each August, we collect school supply donations to support students across Cherokee County. All contributions are evenly distributed among the county’s schools, helping teachers ensure every student has the materials they need to start the year prepared and confident.

Each October, we host our annual Benefit Motorcycle Ride to support local cancer patients and their families. All proceeds are donated to the Gibbs Cancer Foundation, ensuring that every dollar raised stays right here in the Upstate to make a meaningful difference in our community.

Annual Toy & Coat Drive

Annual Toy & Coat Drive

Each December, we collect toys and coats to help fulfill the wishes of more than 100 Angel Tree children in our community. Every child supported through this effort is a local member of our community, ensuring that the generosity shared stays close to home and makes a meaningful impact during the holiday season.

Annual Domestic Violence Vigil

Annual Toy & Coat Drive

Each summer, campers wrap up their seven-week experience with a three-day Law Enforcement Camp. During these three days, students participate in hands-on safety lessons and meaningful life-skill activities taught through interactive games and team-building experiences.

This unique opportunity not only equips children with valuable knowledge but also helps foster positive relationships and trust between law enforcement officers and the youth in our community.

Each year, we proudly partners with Project R.E.S.T. to sponsor the annual Domestic Violence Vigil. This meaningful event honors the lives of those lost to domestic violence in Cherokee County while also raising awareness about the resources and support available to anyone affected by an abusive relationship.

Care Kits for the homeless

Annual Domestic Violence Vigil

We proudly partner with local churches and nonprofit organizations to assemble care kits for members of our homeless community. These kits often include food boxes, backpacks, warm clothing, gloves, blankets, and other essential supplies to meet immediate needs. When a deputy encounters someone who is experiencing homelessness, they are equipped with these care kits to provide immediate support, compassion, and practical assistance during a difficult time.

Giving Back Organization

For more than a decade, we have been proud partners of the Giving Back Organization. Each summer, this program brings together hundreds of young people through the game of basketball, creating a positive and engaging environment for our youth. Beyond the court, our officers connect with participants by building meaningful conversations, providing K9 demonstrations, and joining in games and activities. This partnership strengthens trust, fosters lasting relationships, and creates opportunities to guide young people toward positive choices while keeping them engaged and out of trouble.

Snack Packs for Children

We partner with local churches to support the Snack Packs for Children initiative. Church members assemble gallon-sized bags filled with shelf-stable snacks and food items, ensuring they are ready to help when needed. At the start of each shift, deputies take several snack packs with them while on patrol. When they encounter a child in need, they are able to provide a bag of food.  This creates meaningful opportunities for officers to build trust, strengthen relationships, and foster positive interactions that help community members see law enforcement in a supportive and constructive light.

Too Good for Drugs

Giving Back Organization

Too Good for Drugs

Every elementary school student in Cherokee County (including those in charter schools) participates in the Too Good for Drugs program. This evidence-based initiative equips students with nine practical strategies to help them make healthy choices and avoid drugs, alcohol, tobacco, bullying, and gang involvement. Students in grades 1 through 4 are introduced to key concepts through age-appropriate lessons that build a strong foundation. In 5th grade, students complete the full curriculum and celebrate their achievement with a graduation ceremony, reinforcing their commitment to making positive, responsible decisions.
