Who is William "Billy" Anthony?

A lifelong resident of Cherokee County, he attended Cherokee County schools, graduating from Gaffney Senior High School. Billy Anthony embodies the values of service, dedication, and commitment to our community. 

Billy’s journey into law enforcement began in 2000 when he completed the Reserve Deputy training program and became a Reserve Deputy for the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office. In 2002 Billy was hired to a full-time position and completed the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy to become a Class 1 certified Deputy. Over the next 24 years Billy rose through the ranks, demonstrating exceptional leadership skills and an unwavering dedication to his community.

Throughout his career at the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, Billy has served in various capacities such as a Deputy, Sergeant, and Lieutenant on Uniform Patrol. While in the Uniform Patrol Division, Billy expressed a huge interest in crime scene investigations where he assisted from 2007 until 2010. In 2010, he changed roles to become a full time Crime Scene Investigator where he remained until 2020. In January of 2020 Billy was promoted to Captain overseeing the Uniform Patrol, Civil, and SRO Divisions. In February of 2023 Billy was promoted to Major of Field Operations where he served until May of 2025 when he was promoted to Chief Deputy of the Sheriff’s Office. During his tenure he became a specific skills, project lifesaver, driving, firearms, and patrol rifle instructor. 

Notably Billy has received numerous awards and accolades for his dedicated service to Cherokee County. Billy is a member of several committees and boards that are working to make the community a better place for all of its residents. 

Billy Anthony is the husband to Michelle Carter Anthony, and together they are blessed with two wonderful daughters.
